Birthdays and ex-boyfriends are complex situations.There is one day out of the year that will undoubtably make you think about an old lover and that day is their birthday.

For whatever reason, even IF they aren’t your facebook friend anymore, your brain will never let you forget this one specific date. They basically own all stock for that day every year. And the birthday is a telling day. Are you going to acknowledge it or are you going to snub it?

Generally, if you send them a text or a phonecall wishing them happy birthday and you two haven’t spoken in quite some time, it can be interpreted as “I still care about you”.

If you send an “isn’t today your birthday?” text years after you were anywhere near eachother’s genitals, it can mean “let’s be friendly, but not that friendly”.

And there’s my personal favorite, a silent I-refuse-to-let-you-have-this-moment nonexistent acknowledgement which can essentially be interpreted as “fuck you”.
